The results of a study to compare water quality before and after the manure application regulations instituted in December 2011 suggest the regulations are having a positive impact on water quality in the Grand Lake St. Marys watershed.

According to an article published in The Evening Leader, the study identified significant reductions in nitrate, phosphorus, total suspended solids, and nitrogen.
