It was a big day on Grand Lake St. Marys.

"Brutus" the new $670,000 dredger was dedicated Monday on the East Bank.

And on the West Bank of the lake, a boat with a barge loaded with tanks of alum was launched. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources began the task of treating the entire 13,500 acres of Grand Lake St. Marys with alum on Monday. In 2011, only about a third of the lake was treated.

The $5 million cost to treat the lake is being paid for by ODNR.
