Dear LIA Members and Concerned Citizens,

The time for action is now.

The Ohio Department of Agriculture’s nonsensical, unenforceable proposed rule change concerning winter manure application in our distressed watershed has quietly passed the Common Sense Initiative board and is on its way to the Joint Committee on Agency Rule Review (JCARR). Despite the best efforts of the Lake Improvement Association and other entities to maintain a dialog with ODA and work toward a compromise, ODA has elected to force its plan on the citizens of Mercer and Auglaize counties with no regard for the disastrous effect it might have on our environment and economy.

You have two opportunities to make your voice heard:

  • There will be a public comment period at the ODA building in Reynoldsburg, Ohio at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20,, 2018
  • There will be a public hearing in front of the JCARR committee at the Ohio State House at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2018

The LIA will be arranging transportation to both public hearings. We implore you to join us as we need the strongest unified voice we can possibly get! If you are interested in attending either hearing, please email us at president@lakeimprovement.com by Nov. 1 so we can appropriate enough transportation for everyone.

NEXT STEPS

Over the next few days, the LIA will draft a letter to send to senators and representatives, and we want YOUR name attached!

Please monitor your email, our website and our Facebook page so you can sign the petition and put a stop to this proposal!

Details on the hearings, emails and addresses to send correspondence, as well as rules associated with the process can be found in the attached document.

Stay tuned as more action items are to come. Grand Lake St. Marys needs your voice!

Sincerely,

The Lake Improvement Association Executive Board
