The Lake Restoration Commission, Wright State University-Lake Campus and Mercer County are seeding the Prairie Creek wetlands with beneficial plants that will help remove phosphorus and nitrogen that cause Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs). As part of the initiative, we are offering the public the opportunity to get their own free plant plugs to add beneficial vegetation to channels on Grand Lake St. Marys. 

If you’d like to plant your own shoreline vegetation (details below), order your free plant plugs by May 7, 2022 below. 

Details

  • Each individual can order up to 32 plants
  • If there are more plants available, they will be distributed first-come, first-served on the pickup date
  • Order online by May 7
  • Pickup will be after the LIA member meeting on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at approximately 11:15am in the Celina Moose parking lot
  • You can use the plants to construct your own AFI or plant shoreline vegetation. They should be planted in around 3″ of water in a stable substrate (not loose silt)

Note that we cannot guarantee which types of plants you will receive, but it will be one or a combination of the following:

  • Northern Blue Flag
  • Sweet Flag
  • White Water Lily
  • Common Arrowhead
  • Hardstem Bulrush
  • Common Bur Reed
