Grand Lake St. Marys is getting national attention as companies compete to treat the algae problem.
Crews are using alum to treat the lake. The goal is to increase clarity in the lake and to reduce the phosphorus levels, killing the algae.The Ohio Department of Natural Resources is treating about one-third of the 4,900-acre lake.HAB Aquatic Solutions, a company in Nebraska, won the $3.5 million contract to clean up the rest of the lake.Officials with the company said they play to hire workers whenever possible.
