More and more campers are flocking to Grand Lake St. Marys, illustrating the impact the lake has on the local economy and demonstrating how lake improvement efforts have made the lake a popular destination. State Park Manager David Faler shared the following year-to-year campground comparisons at the November 2019 LIA member meeting:
Total Nights Stayed
2015: 9,164
2016: 10,896
2017: 12,090
2018: 13,736
2019: 14,932
That represents a 63% increase in total nights stayed since 2015.
Total Campground Revenue
2015: $450,000
2016: $506,000
2017: $570,000
2018: $657,000
2019: $663,000
That represents a 47% increase in revenue since 2015.
In addition, the dredge team removed 433,348 cubic yards of material from Grand Lake St. Marys in 2019. That’s the second-best year, and the team would have beat its previous record of 455,000 yards if warmer weather had held for two more weeks.
