The Lake Improvement Association recently hosted 177 students at Grand Lake St. Marys for its annual fishing derby for special needs children.
Ohio Department of Natural Resource employees as well as 119 volunteers, teachers, and teacher aides assisted with baiting hooks, removing fish, and providing and serving lunch.
The group went through 378 hot dogs, 53 dozen cookies, 136 individual bags of chips, and 345 bottles of water and soft drinks.
The LIA would like to extend a special thank-you to Kara Birt, David Faler, ODNR and crew for setup, Pantry Pride Supermarket, Villa Nova Drive Thru, Grand Lake Health and Jeff Vossler for providing sunglasses for the students, and the school administrators, teachers, bus drivers, and other personnel along with the many volunteers.
