Thanks to the senate budget bill, those trying to clean Grand Lake St. Marys may be getting a helping hand.

The Grand  Lake St. Marys restoration commission announced their support for recently added budget bill provisions. If passed, an amendment in House Bill 153 will provide Auglaize and Mercer County Boards of Commissioners the authority to form a lake facilities governing body which will coordinate the restoration of the lake. However, the budget bill does not provide the funding for such a project. According to Thomas Knapke, that responsibility will be the communities. Money for such a lake governing body would have to come from tax dollars. Which according to Knapke would have to be voted on and accepted by the community before issued.
