Mercer County, Mercer Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Wildlife (ODNR-DOW) is hosting a tour of the Windy Point Wetland Project on Saturday, August 1, 2020 beginning at 8:30 am and ending at 10:00 am. Location is just north of 5051 Lake Vista Lane in Montezuma. ODNR-DOW will give us an in-depth look at wetlands and wildlife around Grand Lake St. Marys. Information on public walking trails around the south side of the lake will be distributed. Bring your questions on treatment wetlands, wildlife, trail systems and more! A continental-style breakfast will be available. This event is free to the public.
The Windy Point Wetland project was funded through an Ohio Environmental Protection Agency 319 grant with additional local public and private funding from Mercer County, Mercer SWCD, ODNR-DOW and Pheasants Forever. This project enhanced and created 5.6 acres of wetlands with an additional 9.7 acres of warm-season grasses. We will have optional guided tours along the 0.35-mile walking path throughout the morning. Social distancing is encouraged and tours will be given in small groups to maintain safety of the public.
Please tune into the virtual monthly Lake Improvement Association beginning at 10:00 am to learn even more about projects going on in and around Grand Lake St. Marys (available on Facebook).
