From WCSM Radio:

A large number of participants turned out for the 2014 "Get the Carp Outta Here" Bait & Bow Tournament but cold weather and cold water took a toll on the number of carp taken from the lake. The fourth annual, two day tournament aimed at reducing the number of rough fish in Grand Lake St. Marys ended with a total of 6,045 pounds of carp caught. Tournament Co-Chair Greg Schumm said that this was the lowest amount taken in the tournament's history. He added it was just so cold, the carp were very hard for the anglers and bow fishermen to find. In 2011 the participants took out 8,142 pounds of carp. The totals increased to 12,831 pounds in 2012 and 15,541 pounds last year. Schumm added the nearly 150 participants had to work extra hard for the carp they caught and we are happy that thanks to their efforts there are now three tons less carp in Grand Lake St. Marys.

Donna Grube, tournament co-chair said the tournament would not be possible without the support of the tournament sponsors and the dozens of volunteers. She added that special thanks go out to the major sponsors: Celina Moose 1473 and KCI Technologies as well as the 26 tagged carp sponsors.

The "Get the Carp Outta Here" Bow & Bait Tournament committee knew that with such cold fishing conditions those tagged carp might be tough to catch, so they have decided to offer a bounty. Any carp pulled from the lake with the green tag from this year's tournament or an orange tag from 2013, now through July 4th will be worth $50. Open to the public, anyone catching a tagged carp just needs to bring the tag to the Auglaize & Mercer Counties Convention and Visitors Bureau Office to claim their prize.
