LIA Membership Meeting

Minutes:
Stan Wilker gave the treasurers report.Nick Rentz welcomed everyone to the members meeting and stood for the pledge of allegiance.
Stan Wilker talked about the February Dance held on February 24, 2018. He said The Bishops, a Musical Journey, received a lot of praise and as a result will be back next year. He said the evening went very well with attendance and money made. Stan listed several sponsors and auction door prize items.
Nick Rentz spoke about the Survey which was put out to get some feedback. Nick said the survey was overwhelmingly positive. He outlined the results of the survey and explained it to the membership. Using the survey, he presented the LIA 2018 Goals. The major goals are as follows: Continue to help water quality in Grand Lake St. Marys. Be more politically active. Spread the GOOD news about the lake. Continue to improve amenities around the lake. Revive the LIA channel aeration program.
Nick Rentz gave an update on lake level. He said the plan was to be at level pool by the end of March. We are now 8.6” over but will be managed to level pool by April.
Nick Rentz also talked about the debate which will be held next month. He said the three candidates for Keith Fabers seat will be present to debate and answer questions from the membership. He noted that questions will come directly from the membership and moderated by Kevin Sandler.
Tom Knapke- updated members on wetland projects around the lake. He said they received a grant for testing around the lakes wetlands and treatment trains. He is hoping the results will show and enable him to move forward on future wetlands and projects. He also quickly noted on the Villa Nova 2nd Beach Project claiming the project will be a great recreation opportunity for folks to use.
Dave Faler gave quick updates for ODNR. David added to Nicks report on lake level. He also gave dates for some important events, there are several 5k hikes (next Sunday) in the near future and lake clean up day is April 22.
Theresa Dirksen updated members on her efforts to find solutions for water quality. She spoke about their application for the 319 Grant through the EPA, which needs to be in by March 19th. She said several other projects focused on manure removal are beginning within the next couple weeks. On September 9th there will be tours of wetlands, water, and farm areas to educate those interested.
Jeff Keller was present to speak about 319 grant projects he is hoping to accomplish if the grant is awarded. He informed members about a tree program his department is using to help people in the area pick out and plant trees in their yard.
Nick Rentz Nick then opened the floor to questions from members then concluded the Members Meeting early noting the Polar Plunge is about to begin.
Jeff Vossler drew the winner of the 50/50.
