THE CITY OF SAINT MARYS HAS INSTRUCTED CITY EMPLOYEES NOT TO HAVE ANY CONTACT WITH THE WATER IN THE SAINT MARYS RIVER OR THE MIAMI AND ERIE CANAL DUE TO A CONCERN OVER TOXINS FROM ALGAE. SAINT MARYS SAFETY SERVICE DIRECTOR TOM HITCHCOCK COMMENTS.

THE WATER FROM THE MIAMI AND ERIE CANAL COMES FROM GRAND LAKE SAINT MARYS, WHICH CURRENTLY HAS AN ADVISORY AGAINST ANY CONTACT WITH THE WATER DUE TO TOXINS. THE SAINT MARYS RIVER MIXES WITH CANAL WATER AT AN AQUEDUCT NORTH OF TOWN.
