The photo below is of clear discharge flowing from the Prairie Creek treatment train project. This is significant because the crystal clear water is being naturally cleaned by the wetlands created on Prairie Creek – it has not been treated with alum.
The Prairie Creek treatment train is one of several planned wetlands projects for Grand Lake St. Marys. Wetlands naturally filter runoff and use up nutrients such as phosphorus and nitrogen, which are the primary contributors to algal blooms.
The installation is going to be expanded and will undergo continued monitoring, and future wetland installations on other Grand Lake St. Marys tributaries are planned.
