GUARDIAN(S) OF THE LAKE

The Lake Improvement Association has named Jared Ebbing, Milt Miller and Dave Meyer as Guardians of the Lake. The annual designation is traditionally awarded to a single individual for extraordinary efforts to restore Grand Lake St. Marys and this year the LIA deemed that all three recipients have gone the extra mile – and then some – to help the entire watershed realize that goal. LIA President Tim Lovett presented Ebbing, Miller and Meyer with a glass trophy in their honor at the LIA’s September membership meeting.

Dave Meyer has been a long time member and supporter of the Lake Improvement Association. He has provided countless hours of help and support through involvement in LIA sponsored events as well as being the reason why the kids fishing derby is a huge success each year.

He has been instrumental in putting the current board together and continues to encourage people to get involved in changing the lake for the better. He leads by example and is willing to express his views and opinions to anyone. He also is willing to listen to your view point. He has excellent knowledge of the lake and the surrounding area which has come from being around the lake since childhood. He uses that knowledge to work with and support local and state agencies where ever he can and keeps a watchful eye on what is happening in the lake.

Through his relentless work and support of the lake and his involvement and actions within the LIA, Dave Myer has shown what a true Guardian he is.

Jared Ebbing. In a time of crisis there comes a defining moment when a plan must be implemented. As with most plans, success is achieved through individual commitment to a common goal. Our lake is in crisis and this individual has stepped forward without hesitation to make the Lake Restoration Commission and its projects a success.

He understands what an economic engine this lake is for our region and how it impacts the daily lives of many people. Jared was very instrumental in the development of the Lake Restoration Commission and having him on board with his professional engineering experience has proved to be invaluable. His vision has given the Lake Restoration Commission the sense of direction it required.

He has spent countless hours giving Lake Presentations and has met with numerous Federal, State and Local officials to discuss the many technical issues facing our Lake. Critical thinking, project management and Looking at things out of the box are a few of his notable attributes. We are fortunate to have this quality individual as a part of our Lake community.

Milt Miller. Passionate, energetic, committed these are just a few of the words that describe this year recipient and with the current state of our lake, he has been the ideal person to step forward to help Save Grand Lake.

His daily life centers around working with people and what is happening in, on and around the Lake communities. Over the years he has taken on many tasks to make this area special to all of us. He is a past President of the St. Marys Area Chamber of Commerce and has chaired the St. Marys Summerfest Committee. His involvement with spear heading various community projects earned him the distinguished Builder of Bridges Award.

For many years he has been an active member of the Lake Development Corporation and considers himself to be a true Lake Rat This past year he was asked to be a member of the Lake Restoration Commission and as usual, this civic minded individual jumped in with both feet and took on a major role as the Fund Raising Chairman.

He has been the group energizer bunny.pushing, motivating, and never losing site of the goal. He has given more presentations about Grand Lake” than any volunteer in the region. His determination and hard work has helped raise more than $500,000.00 for projects being implemented around the Lake.
