Students at Celina High School and Memorial High School (St. Marys) recently joined forces to raise funds to help improve Grand Lake St. Marys.

The students thought it would be fun to have a friendly competition between the schools to see who could raise the most money for the lake, a resource both communities share. They organized Stall Day on Feb. 14, where students brought donations in and classes were “stalled” until their teachers could count it.

Student Council members from both schools presented the Lake Improvement Association with a check for $3,500 during halftime of the St. Marys-Celina varsity basketball game held on Feb. 18, 2022.

The Lake Improvement Association thanks MHS and CHS students for their generous donation, which will be used to fund ongoing lake improvement efforts. It’s inspiring that students found a fun way to leverage the longstanding Roughrider/Bulldog rivalry into a project that benefits the lake, and we’re excited about the bright futures our communities will share in the hands of these young leaders.
