Board Members Present: President Tim Lovett, Vice President Mark Piening, and Sgt of Arms Dave Eyink Secretary Eric Morris Trustees: Rom Rampe, Brian Morris and Stan Wilker. Absent were:  Treasurer Ted Bertke, Trustees: Seth Brigham due to prior obligations.

Tim Lovett welcomed everyone and led the pledge of allegiance.

Ted Bertke gave the treasurers report:

April 1 Balance                $ 27,260.41

 

Stan Wilker spoke about the Luau on the Lake event that was held on February 15th 2014. Stan thanked all the people donated the event. Stan said that the proceeds are around $8300.00 for the event. Mark Piening stepped up to thank Stan for all of his work as chairperson of the event.

 

Dave Eyink and Mark Piening offered a report on the 2014 Membership Renewal for 2014. Dave said that he is looking for new ways to get more people involved with the LIA. He also asked members to go out and find new members. Mark Piening said a mass mailing went out earlier in the week so people should be getting their reminders to renew. Mark mentioned that a few membership renewals have come in so far with some great donations and thanked the membership for that.

 

Dave Eyink also reported on the Grand Lake Aeration Project that the LIA is offering again this year. Dave said that the LIA offers a cost share program to assist people with 20% up to $500$500 of the cost to their aeration project. He said that if you are interested in taking advantage of the program this year to get ahold of the LIA.

 

Tim Lovett spoke about the upcoming Grand Lake Marathon that will be held on September 27th. Tim said that it is estimated that 700 people have already signed up .Tim said that the marathon is 26 miles or 12 miles for the half marathon. Tim also mentioned that during the marathon there will be some traffic issues. Tim said that the marathon committee is looking for volunteers to help with the event by going onto Grand Lake Marathon website and signing up your “team” to become a volunteer and support the event.

 

Tim Lovett and Eric Morris thanked the Auglaize County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 76 for their $250.00 donation to the LIA. Tim said that the monies donated to the LIA were proceeds from an annual dodge ball tournament that the FOP holds. The attending members applauded the efforts of the FOP to help make improve the lake.

 

Brian Miller Gave the lake report. He said that the biggest topic is lake level. Brian said lake level increased by 6 inches from last month. Brian also said that crappie fishing is “phenomenal”. Brian asked people to make sure that the fire extinguishers are up to date in their boats. Brian said that people should be paying their dock fees. Brian also mentioned that the state park is offering a discount for camp sites at 10% off. Brian added that 14 new sites will be added to the park as well as some other renovations to camp sites and shelter houses. Brian said that the Lake Cleanup Day is April 26th from 9am to noon. Brian then gave some extra information about the Governor’s Cup Regatta and the Grand Lake Marathon. Brain said that part of the monies raised at the marathon will be donated back to the lake through the LRC. Brian said that he is still waiting on the grant for the west bank road and boardwalk and hopes to update the membership at the May meeting.

Brian then talked about some rule changes that all Ohio State Parks are coming soon. He said that two main things will be changing, one being that folks will NO longer need a permit to detect metal in the park and the second being that folks swimming off of their shoreline changed from 100 feet to 60 feet limit.

Brian Miller gave the LRC report for Milt Miller. Brain said that some land behind the “Zuma Thru” in Montezuma will be purchased through a Clean Ohio Grant obtained but the LRC. He also talked about several other areas that will be purchased through the same grant. Jeff Vossler also mentioned that the LRC is working to get the LFA implemented and that it progressing well.

 

Tom Grabo with Soil and Water: said that he is working on some stump removal and asked folks to let him know of any stumps that haven’t been marked or removed yet. Tom mentioned that some heavy equipment will be moved across from Wright State soon. He also talked about the new dredge and the naming process. Tom thanked all the people involved with finding a name for the new dredge and said that he has found a name. He said that the new dredge will be named “Hoedag” Tom said that the dredge will have some artwork and and have the motto “Monster of the Lake” on the side. Tom explained that the dredge is right on schedule for delivery. Tom showed the membership some photos of the Hoedag and explained some of the components.

 

Abby Tobe and Francis Springer with the SWCD: Before their report President Tim Lovett presented a check to Abby Tobe from the LIA to help buy materials for their Annual Kids Poster Contest and for the Soil Testing Program with a $500 donation that will purchase 100 tests. Abby then added that folks can get a test for $5 through their program. Francis Springer talked about senate bill 150 which covers commercial fertilizers and House Bill 490 which talks about who will regulate farms in Ohio. Francis said that this is the first full year for the manure ban around the lake. Francis mentioned that she hasn’t seen a lot of manure application yet. She also spoke about some construction that will be built on farms in the watershed.
