LIA Membership Meeting

Minutes:

Nick Rentz welcomed everyone to the members meeting and stood for the pledge of allegiance.

Nick Rentz gave the treasurers report. Nick said there is around $45000 in the bank with an additional $5000 in the St. Marys Foundation.

Nick Rentz gave a report on the proposed changes from ODA to the watershed. He said there haven’t been any changes since the last meeting however there will be a meet and greet at the Reagan Day Celebration on April 9th.

Jeff Vossler gave a report for the Summer Kickoff to be held on June 22, 2019. Jeff said the event features a 5K fun run and a festival afterwards. Bands that will be featured at the event will Lauren Jean Shroeder and Scott Rosenbeck, Exploit, Freerider, and One Eyed Show to complete the theme of Bringing Back Local Legends”. Wendle Mobley may also make an appearance on the day of the event to make for a great day on the East Bank.

Zach Farrell with St. Marys Rotary spoke about the 2019 Carp Derby to be held on May 31- June 2. All proceeds go to the rotary club. Zach said there are still opportunities to sponsor the event.

Nick Rentz talked about 2019 Membership Drive. Nick noted memberships are in great standing and asked for members to rejoin for the coming year.

David Faler gave the ODNR report. Dave said the lake level is up + 1.45”. Dave said the restrooms and shelter houses are now open for the year. Dave talked about boat safety and asked that people check their boats for required equipment. He noted Lake Cleanup Day is April 20th and Dock Fees are due May 1st. Dave said he has a spot open for a lifeguard.

Theresa Dirksen gave the Ag Solutions report. Theresa updated the membership on projects around the lake. The Stream Restoration at the Celina Elks is underway with trees being removed by the deadline in early April. Theresa said she has meetings with two companies with manure digesters in the coming weeks however she is skeptical on their feasibility. She talked about wetland location options and the possibility of growing barley during the winter in the watershed.

Tom Grabow gave the dredge report. Tom spoke about the West Beach Project where the Hoe Dag has recently arrived to begin dredging. Once dredging is finished new sand and aeration will be added to the area.

Dr. Steven Jacquemin with Wright State University gave an update for the LRC. He said due to new state directors local groups are looking to meet to ensure the lake is being represented. Dr. Jacquemin then presented a power point on his efforts on improving water quality. He explains what has caused the problem and how to approach a solution. Dr. Jacquemin then presented new data that supports that efforts from dredging, wetlands, DMRA’s and other efforts so far are helping reduce phosphorus. He then answered questions from the membership.

Nick Rentz talked about the recently installed Stan Wilker Memorial Playground located at Windy Point. Nick praised the addition and showed photos of the installation and thanked Kyle Vantilburg and his crew for installing the playground.

Nick Rentz then opened the floor for membership’s questions.  Jeff Vossler read the 50/50 winner.
